HOW TO DISINFECT POULTRY HOUSE OR LAYER CAGE
When chickens are kept in a poultry house, we use a disinfection sprayer to disinfect the chickens that are raised together in the building. Spraying is the most effective way to disinfect poultry house. Spray the mist water containing disinfectant from the top of the chicken house to successfully disinfect the chickens. Disinfecting chickens that are housed together is an important part of preventing the spread of viruses and disease when breeding chickens. It is especially effective for old chicken farms with poor isolation conditions that encourage the spread of various epidemics. It is an effective measure to control environmental pollution and the spread of disease in chicken houses.

Any good poultry house cleaning and disinfection program should be done from time to time. The following ways can be put in place to ensure proper disinfection of your poultry house.

  • Control insects: Wearing appropriate protective equipment, spray the poultry house interior with a locally recommended insecticide as soon as the flock is removed and while the house is still warm. A second treatment with insecticide should be completed before fumigation.
  • Remove dust: Remove all dust and cobwebs from interior surfaces and equipment.
  • Pre-spray: Again, wearing appropriate protective equipment, spray detergent solution throughout the broiler house interior to dampen any remaining dust. Close the curtains in open-sided poultry houses first.
  • Remove equipment: Remove all equipment from the house and raise automatic feeders and drinkers.
  • Remove and dispose of litter: Litter must be removed to a distance of at least 3.2 km (2 miles) and disposed of in accordance with government regulations.
  • Wash: Use a pressure washer with a foam detergent. Ensure the detergent is compatible with the disinfectant to be used. Rinse with hot water.
  • Clean water and feeding systems: Drain, clean and disinfect the water system. Water pipes should be cleaned at least once per flock to remove any biofilm that may have built up. If physical cleaning is not possible, use high levels (140 ppm) of chlorine. Flush water lines with clean, fresh water prior to flock placement. Empty, wash and disinfect all feeding equipment. Empty bulk bins and connecting pipes and brush out. Clean out and seal all openings. Wherever possible, fumigate.
  • Disinfect: Use an approved disinfectant that is effective against specific poultry bacteria and viruses. Follow manufacturer’s instructions at all times. Most disinfectants are not effective against speculated coccidian oocysts, and selective coccidian treatments should be used by trained staff only.
  • Fumigate: Where permitted, formalin fumigation should be completed by trained personnel, following safety legislation and guidelines.

The positive effects when using the disinfection sprayer to disinfect the chicken house

Spraying disinfectant can purify the chicken’s body, feathers, skin, and breathing can effectively kill the pathogenic microorganisms attached to the body. This helps prevent respiratory diseases and the accumulation of pathogens discharged from sick chickens in the chicken house. It can effectively prevent the occurrence of Marek’s disease, infectious bursal disease, staphylococcal disease, E. coli disease, and other various respiratory diseases.

Using the disinfection sprayer disinfectant can effectively kill the viruses and bacteria floating in the air in the house, decrease the dust floating in the house, inhibit the generation of harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and ammonia, and purify the air in the house.

Spraying disinfectant during the summer can also play a role in preventing overheating. Generally speaking, disinfectants used on chickens can increase the breeding and survival rate of adult hens. As the chicken’s health level improves, the laying rate of the chickens can also be increased, and the eggs with dead embryos are decreased. The overall fertilization rate and number of healthy chicks born is increased.
